Lisa asks…

How is Obama’s spin machine debunking the fact an est. 23 million Americans will lose their current plan?

With the ramped up attacks by the dems to try to squash opposition to Dumbo’s plan, how are they “debunking” the findings of the Congressional Budget Office?

The Congressional Budget Office found that 23 million Americans would lose their current plans if the Senate Democratic health carereform” bill becomes law.

Sarah Fields answers:

The same old tactics they’ve always used. When opposition uses the same tactics, it’s un-american or nazi. When they do it, it’s patriotic.

Steven asks…

How do you think health care reform will impact the medical insurance you receive at your place of business?

I am wondering if my company will still offer insurance and if not, where I will get comparable and affordable coverage…

Sarah Fields answers:

Well, I just received notice that as of Jan. 1, 2010, my husband’s group plan will be increasing in premium due to the fact our group carrier must include children until the age of 26 (we included children up to age 25 before). It was also pointed out the increase includes the fact there is no longer a cap on the lifetime benefits which will require the insurer to incur higher costs.

I was also notified that the coverage I provide for my employees will increas dramatically, effct. Jan. 1st, due to the same reasons.

The policies above are group plans.

The individual policies I can offer my clients have also increased in premium like I have never seen before. I can’t even imagine what the premiums will be by 2014.

If this trend continues, I will no longer be able to offer my employees group benefits and I don’t have to because I have less than 10 employees. I have already seen my customers increasing their deductibles effective Jan. 1st. A few have cancelled their policies siting inability to pay.

I have no doubt many Americans will be seeking the only plans they will be able to afford, government plans. I also believe this was the full intention of the current administration.

**I have also worked directly in the health insurance arena and I know how hard they try TO pay claims. I’m not sure who the poster before me worked for, but it must have been an awful company. They are not all like that. The few that are give the rest a bad reputation.

John asks…

What tax credits are available to Small Employers through Health Care Reform?

Sarah Fields answers:

2010 Small Employers – Health Care Reform and Tax Credits

WHAT EVERY SMALL BUSINESS SHOULD KNOW …
The new health reform law states that small businesses with 25 or less full-time employees may be eligible to receive the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit when providing health care coverage to their employees.
________________

Effective 2010:
• Tax credit of up to 35% of premium
contributions

• Credit amount is lower as number of
employees and average wages increase

• Full credit to businesses with 10 or fewer full
time equivalent employees and average
annual wages of less than $25,000

Starting in 2014:

• States will be required to set up insurance pools
called SHOP Exchanges (Small Business
Health Option Programs) which will allow small
businesses to group together to buy health
insurance

• Receive 50% tax credit with a company of
10 or fewer employees who earn $25,000 or
less on average

• Employers with 50 or more full-time
employees may be subjected to penalties
under the law if they do not provide health
insurance coverage

Assessable penalties range from $2,000-$3,000 per employee. The first 30 employees are not counted for purposes of calculating assessable penalties
________________

TAX CREDIT ELIGIBILITY
• Employ 25 or less full-time (equivalent) employees*
• Average annual wages less than $50,000*
• Purchase health insurance for employees
. Employer must contribute at least 50% of premium

*Owners, partners, shareholders, and family members are excluded from employee count, wage calculation, and tax credit.

QUALIFICATION CALCULATOR
STEP 1. Determine total number of employees*

Full-time employees (A):_________
(enter the number of employees who work at least 40 hours per week)
+
Full time equivalent of part-time employees (B) :__¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬______
(calculate number of full-time equivalents by dividing total annual hours of part-time employees by 2080)
A + B = ____________ total number employees
If “total number employees” is less than 25, go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Calculate average annual wages of employees

Take the total annual wages paid to employees: $_______________________
÷
Divide it by “ total number employees” from step 1:___________
(total wages ÷ number of employees)
= $_________________average wages

If the result is less than $50,000 AND… (go to Step 3)

STEP 3. If you pay at least half of the insurance premiums for your employees at the single (employee-only) coverage rate, then you may be eligible to claim the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit.
