Susan asks…

How to apply for a government health insurance?

my friend is on a student visa and she is to stay here for 8 months. She wants to apply for a health insurance just in case anything happens to her stay here in California. What are the steps to apply? is there a certain website where she can look for it? Does it include the medical, dental and visual insurance too? thanks

Sarah Fields answers:

Userunknown12, Health insurance can be very tricky. Since I live in Tennessee I’m not sure about California regulations, so I suggest you contact a local insurance agent. Http://www.americaschoicetoday.com/Health-Insurance.html They should be able to help you.

There is no free heath insurance here. 47 million Americans have no insurance and this kid thinks she is enabled to it ?

Laura asks…

What health insurance can I apply for?

I’m in California, in my 30s, and just recently been laid off. Though my plans are to become a full time student this summer. What health insurance plans can I start applying for besides COBRA?

Sarah Fields answers:

You may be able to get an individual policy–if you are relatively healthy. Take a look at your school and see if they offer any health plans. Then you could get a short term policy until you start school.

As far as an individual policy or short term policy, check with an independant agent in your area. They will be able to show you many different plans and varying premiums and benefits.
